Oettinger Davidoff AG is an internationally active family-run company with its headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. The brand portfolio, which centres around the Davidoff core brand in the luxury and premium cigar segment, has for many years set the standard in this high-end market.
The aim here was to create a series of limited editions based on the Chinese animal zodiac designed to appeal to the target group of Chinese customers and those influenced by China. For the Limited Edition 2014, the Year of the Horse, the company wanted to develop a high-premium packaging concept capable of telling a story.

ECHT won the pitch and received the contract for branding and packaging design.
The new graphic and technical design, which was developed from scratch, combines the theme of the «Year of the Horse» with the architectural symbolism of China. Shortly after the launch, the 5000 boxes of cigars had been sold out. The hugely positive response in print and online media from cigar aficionados, as well as the «Packaging of the Year 2013» award presented by the cigar website halfwheel.com, are clear evidence of the success of the project.
